Causes, symptoms and prevention measures of dog eczema

Causes of dog eczema:

1. Stimulated by various factors, under the action of external physical and chemical factors, such as mechanical oppression, friction, biting, scratching, mosquito bites; some internal medicines, external medicines, disinfectants; skin irritation cleaning, dirt stimulation, etc.

2. Poor feeding and management conditions, such as damp kennels and other factors stimulate the body, causing skin allergies and eczema. Eczema is more likely to occur with excessive intake of carbohydrates. There are also more diseases in seasons with higher temperature and higher humidity. my country has the most cases in summer and autumn, especially from May to September.

3. Nutritional deficiency. If the dog lacks vitamins and trace elements, it will cause the dog's skin to have low resistance and also cause eczema.

Symptoms of dog eczema:

1. Acute eczema: At the beginning of the disease, the affected part is erythematous eczema with dots or different shapes, and itching can be seen in dogs. Papule, vesicular, pustular, and erosive stages can occur as the disease progresses. For example, in the pustular and erosive stages, there are mostly microbial infections, the skin has abnormal odor, and there is a sense of skin itching. Sometimes dogs can aggravate dermatitis due to skin damage caused by scratching and friction. Typical acute eczema is moist pimples, and scattered vesicles are arranged on pimples, and some of them have an erosive state as seen.

2. Chronic eczema: mostly due to the transformation of acute eczema. Repeated stimulation and repeated attacks are characterized by skin thickening, desquamation, pigmentation, rough coat, standing upright, and aggravated itching. More common on the back or extremities.

Prevention and treatment of dog eczema:

1. Desensitization, stop exudation, prevent infection, and promote recovery.

2. Adrenal cortex hormone therapy: take dexamethasone tablet 0.2 mg/kg body weight orally or prednisone acetate tablet 1.0 mg/kg body weight orally. Apply fluocinolone acetate or triamcinolone acetate ointment to the affected area. To prevent skin infection, it can be applied alternately with erythromycin ointment.

3. Penicillin and gentamicin can be injected intramuscularly during the pustular stage to prevent infection. For cases with severe symptoms, it can be mixed with dexamethasone injection for intramuscular injection, 2 times/day.

4. Reduce or stop self-injury and relieve itching. Sedatives can be given, or a collar can be put on the sick dog to prevent it from continuing to bite the affected part.

5. Carry out drug treatment, after antibiotics and steroids are used together for 24 hours, the wound surface will be dry, and a scab will form after a few days.
