Causes of Dog Seizures
1. Heatstroke. Common in dogs who engage in activities under strong sunlight, such as walking, training, and playing; staying in enclosed spaces, dog cages, or cars for too long without proper temperature control, ventilation, or access to water can lead to heatstroke; obese dogs, dogs with heart disease, dogs with thick fur, and dogs who lack exercise are also prone to heatstroke.
2. Poisoning. Such as poisoning from rat poison or pesticides.
3. Canine hypoglycemia. This condition mainly affects puppies and lactating female dogs. Puppies under three months old often experience transient hypoglycemia (temporary low blood sugar), which can be caused by cold exposure, hunger, or gastrointestinal disorders. Symptoms in puppies include depression, unsteady gait, facial muscle twitching, generalized spasms, and quick progression into a coma. Lactating females may develop the condition due to excessive litter size, increased nutritional needs, and extensive lactation. Symptoms in lactating females include muscle spasms, rigid or intermittent spasms, high body temperature reaching 41-42 degrees, increased respiration and heartbeat.
4. Canine distemper. This is a common infectious disease in dogs.
5. Postpartum convulsions. Mostly occurs in small breeds, with Shih Tzus being the most susceptible. The incidence is highest during the first and second births, particularly in dogs with over four puppies and high milk production. Excitable small females account for over 90% of the total cases. Dogs with less than three puppies have a lower incidence rate.
6. Encephalitis and meningitis. Inflammation of the meninges and brain tissue caused by infection or toxic factors, including various brain infections and diseases.
Solutions for Dog Seizures

2. Cover the dog with a blanket to prevent contact with the ground, walls, and other hard objects, until the seizure subsides, to prevent injuries.
