How to feed older dogs

1. Increase the intake of protein. Elderly dogs should have a higher protein intake. When feeding dog food, they must also eat some protein-rich substances.

3. To control weight, the activity of elderly dogs will decrease. If you gain weight, you should change the dog to special food for elderly dogs.

4. Control the intake of salt. Excessive salt is a burden to the dog's internal organs.

Precautions for older dogs

1. When a dog enters old age, like humans, its activity level will be relatively reduced, so you must pay attention to the dog's weight. If you still feed the dog food with higher calories, the dog may become overweight. Maintaining weight is especially important for older dogs, as obesity puts increased stress on the heart, lungs, muscles and joints. Its lifespan may be shortened even more as a result, so be sure to keep an eye on your dog's weight when feeding.

2. As the dog gets older, its digestive system will slowly decline. Old dogs use protein in the same way as when they were young, but older dogs need more protein, about 50 percent more. So choose protein-rich foods, or eat smaller meals more often.

3. Dogs will also be accompanied by some diseases when they are old. Therefore, the food should be changed according to the dog's own physical condition. For example, dogs with kidney disease should reduce their intake of phosphorus and protein, and those with heart disease should eat less salt.
