Causes of abscesses in dogs:

1. Abscesses are mostly caused by pathogenic bacteria infection, improper injection of stimulant drugs or certain infectious diseases. The main pathogenic bacteria include Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Corynebacterium pyogenes, Escherichia coli and spoilage bacteria. Due to lack of disinfection when injecting drugs, or due to restlessness, struggle, etc., the injection site deviates from the original disinfection point, causing local inflammation.

2. The abscess in the postoperative wound has a lot to do with the incomplete disinfection of sutures. When intravenous injection of strong irritating drugs (such as calcium preparations) leaks into the subcutaneous tissue, it stimulates local tissue inflammation and localized non-bacterial inflammation occurs.

3. The original abscess in the body is transferred to the skin and subcutaneous tissue through blood or lymph fluid, and metastatic abscess appears. Actinomycetes and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection can cause cold abscess.

Treatment for abscesses in dogs:

1. For initial hard swelling, compound lead acetate powder, ichthyol ointment, etc. can be applied, or 20-30 ml of 0.5% procaine hydrochloride and 400,000-800,000 units of penicillin potassium (sodium) can be used to seal around the lesion. to promote the resolution of inflammation.

2. When the abscess fluctuates. Timely incision and drainage should be performed, the abscess cavity should be flushed, gauze drainage should be installed or open therapy should be performed, and systemic therapy such as antibiotics should be used if necessary.

Symptoms of an abscess in dogs:

Diagnosis is not difficult based on clinical symptoms, puncture is possible if necessary, and the diagnosis can be confirmed if pus is sucked.

1. It can occur in any tissue and organ of various parts of the dog, and its clinical manifestations are basically similar.

2. In the initial stage, local swelling, temperature increase, pain when touched, slightly hard, then gradually increase and become soft, fluctuating.

3. When the abscess matures, the skin becomes thinner. The local coat fell off, and there was a small amount of exudate, and soon the abscess ruptured, and yellow-white viscous pus flowed out.

4. When the abscess is formed, some may cause systemic symptoms such as elevated body temperature; after the abscess ruptures, the body temperature will quickly return to normal.

5. If the treatment is not timely or appropriate, sometimes it can form a long-lasting fistula, and some cases even cause sepsis and death.

6. For deep abscesses that occur in deep muscles, between muscles and viscera, the fluctuations are not obvious due to the deep location. However, the superficial tissue often has edema, local tenderness, obvious systemic symptoms and corresponding organ dysfunction.
