Causes of Emphysema in Dogs:

1. Primary emphysema is caused by strong breathing during the dog's strenuous exercise, rapid running, and long-term struggle. Especially in elderly dogs, the elasticity of the alveolar wall is reduced, and emphysema is prone to occur.

2. Secondary emphysema often occurs due to persistent cough in chronic bronchitis, diffuse bronchitis, or when bronchi are narrowed and blocked, due to obstruction of bronchial gas passage.

3. Interstitial emphysema is caused by severe coughing, or foreign matter falling into the lungs, and the air pressure in the alveoli increases sharply, resulting in the rupture of the alveolar wall.

Treatment for emphysema in dogs:

1. Strengthen nursing care: first let the sick dog absolutely rest, put it in a clean, dust-free, well-ventilated house, and give it nutritious food.

2. Improve ventilation and ventilation functions: bronchodilators such as theophylline and adrenomimetic drugs can be taken orally or inhaled by nebulization. Adrenal corticosteroids should be used with caution. Respiratory enhancer forminobenzene hydrochloride 50 ~ 80 mg, orally, 3 times a day. It can increase the partial pressure of blood oxygen and reduce the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in sick dogs. Do not use sleeping pills, sedatives, etc.

3. Control heart failure: When edema occurs, diuretics such as dihydrochlorothiazide 10-20 mg can be used orally, twice a day, or furosemide 10 mg twice a day. When taking the medicine, 0.1 to 1 gram of potassium needs to be supplemented every day, orally, 4 times a day. If you use diuretics such as Jiaotishutong and triamterene, you don't need to supplement potassium.

4. Oxygen inhalation therapy: low-concentration oxygen inhalation several times a day. It can relieve dyspnea and control heart failure in dogs.

5. Surgical therapy: Excision of large localized emphysema bullae can inflate the compressed normal lung tissue and enhance the elastic return of the lung.
