What should be noted when a dachshund is pregnant

Dachshund pregnancy precautions:

1. The food for the female dog needs to be fresh, uncontaminated, and absolutely not moldy or spoiled. The temperature of the food is best kept at 37°C. Overheating can affect the dog's appetite and even cause it to refuse food. Cold food can stimulate the stomach and intestines, which may result in a miscarriage.

2. Dachshunds have a low body frame and their belly often gets dirty when they go out to play. It is easy to accidentally bump into their belly during pregnancy. The owner must take good care of the Dachshund to prevent any accidents.

3. Pregnant Dachshunds should have appropriate exercise. In the early stages of pregnancy, they should exercise for about 2 hours a day. In later stages, they can have free activities. This not only exercises the dog's body but also provides energy for the mother dog during delivery, which is very beneficial for the growth of the puppies. Pay attention to prevent heatstroke and strictly prohibit hitting, crossing, or forcing the dog to climb obstacles.

4. Pay attention to the way of holding the dog. The safer way is to squat down, hug the dog's four legs with both arms, and lift it up entirely. Do not hold the Dachshund like a child.

Dachshund delivery precautions:

1. A small number of Dachshund dams may not have enough strength to handle the puppies on their own after the third one is born. The owner needs to provide appropriate assistance or other care.

2. Pay attention to the temperature. The delivery room should be maintained at 25-30°C, and the temperature difference should not be too large. Do not open windows during delivery and for 3 days after, as the mother dog might get gout and the puppies could catch a cold. After 3 days, ventilation can be done for half an hour, but do not blow directly.
