Methods to reduce fever in dogs

1. Physical cooling

Under normal circumstances, the body temperature of dogs is between 38.5-39℃. If the dog's temperature does not exceed this range, you can use a towel soaked in alcohol to repeatedly wipe areas with less hair, such as the abdomen, paw pads, and groin, to help lower the temperature. You can also use ice packs, but be careful not to freeze the dog.

2. Medication for fever reduction

If the dog's body temperature is significantly higher than the normal range, you can give fever-reducing medication. Commonly used fever-reducing medicines for dogs include Antipyretic, aspirin, aminopyrine, etc. If you don't have these pet-specific medications, you can use Sanjiu Cold Medicine or Xiaochaihu Granules.

3. Hydrate the dog

After the dog has a fever, offer it more water if it is willing to drink. If the dog refuses to drink water, you can use a syringe to administer it. However, be careful not to choke the dog. This way, the dog can excrete some heat through urination.

Causes of fever in dogs

1. Cold: A cold can cause a dog to have a fever, often accompanied by symptoms such as coughing and runny nose.

2. Heatstroke: Dogs can also have a fever with higher temperatures due to overheating in hot weather.

3. Calcium deficiency: This mainly occurs in female dogs just after giving birth. Calcium deficiency can cause fever symptoms and seizures.

4. Internal inflammation: Such as enteritis, pneumonia, severe skin infections, etc.

5. Infections: Canine distemper, canine parvovirus, and other infectious diseases can cause fever in dogs.
