What Causes a Dog to Cough?

Reasons why dogs cough:

1. Dog getting angry: dry cough, eye mucus, bad breath, yellow urine, dry stool.

2. Foreign matter stuck in the throat: If the dog suddenly coughs violently, licks its lips and swallows continuously, then something may be stuck in the throat.

3. Large temperature changes: When the weather changes and the temperature difference is large, it will cause rapid expansion and contraction of organs, which may cause bacterial infection and bronchitis. The legendary "kennel cough" coughs up phlegm, decreases appetite, and can lead to pneumonia in severe cases.

4. Chronic bronchitis: Chronic long-term cough due to decreased respiratory immunity due to respiratory damage caused by acute bronchitis.

5. Pneumonia: Due to the fluid in the lungs, the dog has a constant wet cough, like aspiration pneumonia, when the dog inhales stomach acid or vomit when vomiting, it can also cause severe coughing.

6. Reverse sneezing: Reverse sneezing caused by inhalation of pollen and mite powder is very similar to coughing.

7. Tracheal stenosis: The trachea is squeezed due to obesity, the thickening of the trachea wall caused by frequent inflammation or congenital airway stenosis, and cough caused by polyp tumors.

8. Heart disease: For dogs with heart disease, the tongue will turn blue, often have loss of appetite, physical weakness, slow and fast heartbeat and shortness of breath, which can also cause coughing or gasping.

9. Parasites: The presence of parasites can also cause dogs to cough. Parasites like canine heartworm will appear in the dog's right ventricle and pulmonary arteries, affecting the heart and lungs and causing obstacles to the dog's respiratory system, resulting in dyspnea and constant coughing.
