When can dogs get pregnant?

After adulthood, dogs can be bred during their estrus period. Dogs begin sexual development when they are 6 to 8 months old, but it is best for them to become pregnant after their second estrus, which is around 1 to 1.5 years old. This is because the organs of dogs gradually mature after 12 months, so letting dogs become pregnant at this time will be less burdensome for their bodies.

Symptoms of pregnancy in female dogs:

1. After becoming pregnant, female dogs become very sensitive emotionally. They will assume a defensive posture when someone approaches, even towards their owners. The character of the female dog becomes more irritable and their emotions become unstable, which may make them become aggressive.

2. During pregnancy, female dogs become unwilling to move and prefer to sleep. Their reactions become less sensitive and they become dull. Owners should still take their dogs out for activities because exercise can help prevent difficult labor. Owners should take them to places with fewer people for proper physical exercise.

3. When sleeping, pregnant female dogs generally choose to lie on their side or sleep on their back. Even when walking, they will not be as agile as before, especially for dogs that are usually more active.

4. Hormonal imbalances occur in pregnant female dogs, mainly manifested in a loss of appetite, aversion to food, vomiting, etc. Their breasts become red and enlarged.
5. After one month of pregnancy, the dog's belly will visibly protrude. Owners should not assume it is infected with parasites and randomly administer medication. At this time, their appetite will also increase significantly and there may even be fetal movements, so owners should take care of them attentively.
