Causes of canine ovarian cysts:

Follicular cysts are caused by excessive follicle-stimulating hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and insufficient luteinizing hormone, resulting in excessive growth of follicles that prevent normal ovulation and formation of corpus luteum, or by the continuous production of new follicles by the ovary. In corpus luteum cyst, after the cells on the follicle wall are luteinized, the corpus luteum cells degenerate and form a corpus luteum cyst.

Diagnosis of canine ovarian cysts:

1. Sick dogs and cats with follicular cysts show frequent or continuous estrus, and sometimes climb over male dogs, which is the so-called state of euphoria. Impatient, abnormal behavior and even attack the owner. If one side is affected, the follicles on the other side can develop normally, but most of them do not ovulate, or ovulate but cannot conceive. Surgery shows that the follicular sac has a thin wall and is filled with watery fluid. The sexual cycle stops completely when the corpus luteum cyst occurs.

2. Plasma estradiol levels increased in follicular cyst enlargement.

3. Large ovarian cysts that can form a palpable abdominal mass. Ovaries containing large cysts may be torsion.

4. If the cyst is large, abdominal X-ray examination can show a mass of fluid density behind the kidney. On B-ultrasound examination, a localized liquid dark area (cyst) can be seen in the ovary in the posterior kidney area.

5. Pay attention to the differential diagnosis of polycystic kidney, adrenal and renal tumors, ovarian tumors and other mid-abdominal masses.

Clinically, a preliminary judgment is generally made based on symptoms, and laparotomy can be performed if necessary.

Prevention and treatment of canine ovarian cysts:

1. Most follicular cysts may disappear naturally within a few months without treatment.

2. For persistent follicular cysts, intramuscular injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) can be used to make it luteinize, the dose is 50IV, and it can be repeated after 48 hours. If it is effective, the preestrous period will be transferred to the estrous period within 1 to 2 days, and the animal should completely stop sexual behavior within 2 weeks.

3. Surgical removal of the ovary and uterus is the cure for this disease. If the cyst is limited to one ovary, removal of the affected ovary may do well.
