Causes of canine mastitis:

1. The pathogenic microorganisms that cause mastitis mainly include Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium pyogenes, Escherichia coli, etc., which invade through the nipple or the skin wound of the nipple, or can be transferred to the mammary gland with the blood after infection in other parts to cause mastitis. disease, such as acute endometritis.

2. After weaning, the stagnation of milk can also cause the occurrence of this disease. Humidity and uncleanness in the delivery bed are mostly the causes of this disease.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Dog Mastitis:

1. In case of catarrhal mastitis, the breasts are enlarged, the skin is flushed, hot to the touch, the milk volume drops sharply, and the milk is thin and contains flocculent flakes.

2. In suppurative mastitis, the milk is light yellow, or yellow-red watery, containing pus or blood. Sometimes an abscess forms in the affected breast. After the abscess is broken, gray-black pus is discharged, containing necrotic tissue fragments. The sick dog is depressed, has no appetite, often abandons the pups, and lives alone in a corner to lick and suck the breast. Nursing young may suffer from diarrhea, fever, or death.

Prevention and treatment of dog mastitis:

1. Clean the breasts on time and express the milk. In the early stage, apply cold compresses to the red, swollen, hot, and painful breasts, and at the same time use 5-10 ml of 0.25%-0.5% procaine solution to seal the base of the breasts.

2. Select sensitive antibiotics according to the pathogenic bacteria. Such as penicillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, lincomycin and so on.

3. In the later stage, hot compresses can be used, usually 10%~20% magnesium sulfate solution, and ichthyosis or camphor spirit preparations can also be applied externally.

4. When there is an abscess in the breast, it can be cut and drained, flushed, drained, and open therapy can be performed.
