Centipedes fear sunlight and are active at night, preferring to live in dark, warm, well-ventilated places. They like to live in hilly areas and sandy soils, hiding during the day in crevices between bricks, corners of walls, piles of leaves, weeds, and dark corners of decaying wood. At night, they come out to hunt for green worms, spiders, cockroaches, and other prey. Centipedes have a strong ability to crawl through crevices, often using their sensitive antennae and flat heads to probe cracks and crevices in rocks and soil, where they can either pass through or take up residence. When the density becomes too high or there is too much disturbance, they can engage in mutual combat leading to death. However, under artificial breeding conditions, when there is sufficient food and water, dozens of them can coexist together. Centipedes are typical carnivorous animals, fierce and voracious, with a wide range of food preferences, especially insects. In early spring, when food is scarce, they can also eat small amounts of tender grass and moss sprouts.
Not recommended for keeping
The artificial breeding of centipedes can be done using tanks, pools, etc. When using a tank, use an old broken jar or ceramic jar with a diameter of at least 0.5 meters. Bury it in the soil about 20 centimeters deep, with the mouth facing down and compact the outer soil. Build a brick or clay pile in the middle of the tank, about 10 centimeters lower than the tank surface, leaving a certain gap between the pile and the tank wall. If using a intact jar, do not break the bottom and directly build the clay pile in the jar. Centipedes must be bred in a three-dimensional manner, and the centipede pool must be built to suit their survival. When establishing a pool, the breeding pool should be built in a sunny, well-ventilated, easily drained, damp and quiet place. It can be built indoors or outdoors.
