Guyana Emerald Green Tarantula (Latin name: Ephebopus uatuman), also known as the Brazilian Emerald Green Tarantula, is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil and Guyana. It is a relatively new species in the pet tarantula market.
Chinese name: Guyana Emerald Green Tarantula
Latin name: Ephebopus uatuman
Also known as: Brazilian Emerald Green Tarantula
Kingdom: Animalia
They are a timid species, easily scared and prone to escape, they also have a certain level of aggression, therefore they are not a suitable type of pet tarantula for beginners.
Due to their low numbers and difficulty in capturing them in their native habitats, even wild individuals are relatively expensive. The price of artificially bred juveniles is even higher. This is a type that only enthusiasts interested in collecting species from this genus would pay attention to.
1, Freeze to death, the temperature should be above 20, no more to say
2, Dry to death, no explanation
3, Strong light, especially for burrowing species, extremely afraid of light, 10 minutes of direct sunlight in summer can cause death, I have personally experienced it with the metallic blue tarantula
4, Soft feet, the reason is high humidity and poor ventilation. Soft feet are relatively easy to treat. Keep them dry and well-ventilated. Ventilation is the key. Preventive measures include making more holes in the enclosure. I have personally successfully treated it
5, Cysts, not common but do occur. It is when a certain part of the tarantula swells abnormally. The reason is high temperature, high humidity, and bottom heat. Treatment involves reducing humidity and then it can heal with 2-3 molts. My Solomon tarantula had this and I treated it successfully this way
6, Burst belly, don't feed too much
7, Molting problem, when you notice signs of molting, increase humidity appropriately. Do not disturb during molting. If there is a problem with the molt, small juveniles can be amputated directly, while larger individuals can be assisted manually. I successfully helped a rose tarantula complete a molt. Drip some water on the area where the molt is stuck. Also, sometimes a part of the skin remains attached to the kicking hairs area, which is normal and will fall off on its own
8, Stress response, manifested by running around, curling up, twitching upside down, and in serious cases can lead to death. The reason is drastic changes in the environment, such as sudden temperature fluctuations or fright. Except for the Brazilian red tarantula, other species do not have much problem with running around, but they may fall off the ground or the owner might get excited... The first type is when the heat suddenly turns cold, even if the environment returns to heat, it may still die. This was the cause of death for my red 7 tarantula, and even if it survives, there may be sequelae. The second type is when it turns cold to hot. You can tell how serious it is from the twitching. My Solomon tarantula seedling experienced this when I forgot it on the radiator. I put it back in quickly, and it was fine after a while. But a few days later, it had soft feet. In short, everyone should prevent significant fluctuations in the environment
When breeding, it is recommended to use damp peat/coconut soil/clay as the substrate. When breeding, it is important to note that they require relatively high air humidity. It is necessary to provide a fairly thick substrate for them to dig, which can satisfy their nesting needs and also help maintain the relative humidity in the breeding box. Feed options include mealworms, barley worms, Dubia cockroaches, and cherry cockroaches. After reaching a certain size, it is recommended to use long forceps to feed, as handling them can result in the spider becoming agitated. It is important to note that being bitten by the spider would be quite unpleasant.
