Cold
Bichon Frise has two types of colds, one of which is usually more common in early spring, late autumn, and sudden changes in climate. The cause of the disease is mostly due to sudden cold stimulation, such as encountering wind in winter or being attacked by a draft when sleeping indoors, homeless in cold seasons, getting wet in the rain, not drying the hair in time after bathing the Bichon dog, etc.
The main symptoms of a cold include: the sick Bichon Frise being depressed, reduced or refused appetite, red conjunctiva, watery eyes. There is coughing, nasal mucus is purulent, breathing becomes faster, body temperature rises, chills and shivering. If not treated in time, it may be complicated with tracheitis, bronchitis, and other diseases.
If a simple cold is treated promptly, it can be cured quickly. If not treated in time, Bichon puppies may develop bronchopneumonia. When treating, Bichon puppies can be given 1-2 ml of Chaihu Injection, intramuscular injection, twice a day. It is said to be good to give Bichon dogs Banlangen syrup or cold medicine orally.
Canine Distemper
1. Once Bichon Frise gets infected with distemper, the initial symptom is that the body temperature starts to rise (up to 40°C), but after 1-2 days it drops to normal. At this point, everyone relaxes, thinking that the Bichon dog just has a slight cold and will recover soon, but the body temperature of the Bichon Frise rises again.
2. When the body temperature of the Bichon Frise rises for the second time (some cases die at this time), the urine becomes red and yellow, there is sticky or purulent secretion in the eyes, the spirit deteriorates, and there is loss of appetite, but still has appetite.
3. Then it invades the respiratory system of the Bichon Frise. The Bichon Frise will show symptoms of increased body temperature, serous to purulent nasal discharge, coughing, increased breathing, and lung auscultation of rales and other symptoms of pneumonia. (So in the early or even middle stages of the disease, it is prone to be misdiagnosed as a cold or pneumonia.) The affected dogs have swollen eyelids and purulent conjunctivitis.
4. Bichon Frise often develops corneal ulcers in the late stage of the disease; there are small red dots, edema, and purulent papules on the lower abdomen and inner side of the thighs; frequent vomiting; initial constipation, followed by diarrhea, foul-smelling stools, sometimes mixed with blood and bubbles.
Diarrhea
Possible reasons include:
1. Bichon Frise eating too greasy.
Many dog owners care a lot about their dogs and are afraid of malnutrition, so they often feed Bichon dogs with fatty fish, animal liver, etc.
But they don't know that this can be too greasy, and the liver contains a high unit of vitamin A. Excessive intake can cause vitamin A poisoning or hypervitaminosis A, and a milder symptom is diarrhea in Bichon Frise.
2. Bichon Frise eating foods it shouldn't.
There are some foods that Bichon Frise should not eat, such as chocolate or grapes, chicken bones, etc.
Especially milk, if Bichon Frise has symptoms such as flatulence, dehydration, diarrhea, or skin inflammation after drinking milk, immediately stop feeding it milk. This indicates that your Bichon Frise is not compatible with milk.
If you really want to give your dog a little bit, you can feed it milk or yogurt without lactose. Problems may also occur.
3. Improper drinking water.
If Bichon Frise drinks unclean drinking water or the water is too cold, it can also cause diarrhea in dogs.
4. Bichon Frise eating too much.
Sometimes Bichon dogs eat too much and cannot digest it, which can also cause diarrhea and vomiting. At this time, you should appropriately reduce the feeding frequency and amount for Bichon Frise, and try to soften the dog food. Generally, the Bichon Frise will recover slowly after a few days.
Skin Disease
Why do Bichon Frise get skin diseases? It is generally related to bacteria, mites, and fungi.
If it is a mite, it is usually in the abdomen and subcutaneous of Bichon Frise. The symptoms are small red dots on the inner side of the thigh root or on the skin, redness and hair loss around the lips.
Fleas and lice. They are generally located on the surface of Bichon Frise's body, inner side of the thighs, armpits, under the neck, and deep in the fur. They are visible to the naked eye. The eggs of fleas and dog lice are white, so if you see small black dots on the Bichon Frise's body, it is their feces.
Sometimes, Bichon Frise can also develop skin diseases due to certain types of nutrition, such as skin diseases caused by a lack of fatty acids (fatty acids are the main components of cell membranes and have the function of synthesizing prostaglandins and preventing epithelial moisture loss). Therefore, when the dog lacks essential fatty acids, besides the decrease in Bichon Frise's reproduction rate, it can also lead to moist eczema.
1. Do not bathe frequently
When bathing a dog, it should not be done too frequently. The frequency of bathing a dog depends on its hygiene condition. In hot weather, you can bathe the dog more often, while in winter, you can reduce the frequency. However, the total number of baths should not exceed 5 times. Otherwise, it will damage its fur and skin!
2. Brush regularly
Dogs shed their fur almost every day, especially during spring and autumn. Regular brushing is an important step for maintaining good hair growth. Pet owners can use pet-specific brushes to help the dog remove naturally shed fur and prevent matting. Brushing once in the morning and evening for about five minutes each time is enough.
3. Get sunlight
Sunbathing is beneficial for the growth of a dog's fur. In addition to making the fur more shiny, letting the dog sunbathe can also help kill bacteria. While sunbathing, pet owners can let the dog exercise, which can improve the dog's physical fitness, promote blood circulation, and help grow healthier fur.
4. Parasite control
Poor fur quality is often related to parasites. Parasites absorb a large amount of nutrients from the dog's body, leading to nutrient deprivation. Therefore, parasite control is essential. It is recommended to do internal and external parasite control together. Moreover, deworming medicine can cause significant damage to the dog's digestive system, so it is advisable to feed probiotics regularly to alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort.
5. Pay attention to diet
In order to have beautiful fur, it is necessary to establish a good nutritional foundation and pay attention to daily diet. On one hand, feed the dog with nutritious and healthy dog food that meets its needs. On the other hand, you can also give the dog a moderate amount of lean meat, cooked egg yolk, and vegetable oil.
