Black Belly Disease: The main symptoms are the blackening of the scorpion's abdomen, abnormal feces, inactivity, and loss of appetite. This disease generally occurs in winter or early spring, mainly due to low external temperatures and high humidity, which leads to excessive moisture in the scorpion's body. Raising the temperature of the nest and reducing humidity can prevent the occurrence of this disease.
Decay Disease: The main symptoms are bloating and blackening of the scorpion's abdomen, loss of appetite, inactivity, and subsequent whole-body decay, resulting in mass mortality. This disease is mainly caused by spoiled feed or unclean drinking water and can be treated with antibacterial drugs such as loperamide and a small amount of yeast tablets. It is especially important to maintain environmental and dietary hygiene in order to prevent the occurrence of this disease.
Scorpion Lice Disease: The main symptom is extreme restlessness in the scorpion, with yellow grain-like mites lurking in the chest and abdomen, gradually tormenting the scorpion to death. This disease is mainly caused by excessive humidity in the dry scorpion nest. To prevent this disease, a 1% bleach solution and a 3.5% potassium permanganate solution can be sprayed on the scorpion nest for disinfection, or a 4.5% formalin solution can be used for disinfection.
Drying Disease: The main symptoms are yellowing of the scorpion's tail, flattening of the front abdomen, and lack of luster in the whole body. This disease is mainly caused by the scorpion's long-term lack of water. By paying attention to water supply and maintaining moderate humidity in the scorpion nest, the occurrence of this disease can be avoided.
1. Keep the temperature appropriate: When the temperature is below 15℃, the scorpion is in a dry and hibernating state, and its growth stops or slows down. When the temperature is above 40℃, the scorpion desperately seeks moisture, sometimes leading to death. Therefore, the optimal temperature for the growth and development of scorpions should be maintained between 25℃ and 30℃.
2. Control the humidity properly: Scorpions prefer dry environments and are afraid of humidity. The ideal relative humidity should be maintained at 45% to 50%. The moisture content of sand should be between 15% and 20%, so that the sand is neither too dry nor too wet, and people do not feel stuffy in the scorpion habitat. It is important to note that the sand should not be too wet, otherwise the scorpions may be infected with the powdery mite disease, leading to death.
3. Provide sufficient drinking water: The success of scorpion keeping depends on providing enough drinking water. If there is a lack of water supply, the scorpions will become overly dry and it can lead to mutual cannibalism and death. Therefore, every day, a sponge soaked in clean water or cold water can be placed in the scorpion tank. Every 3 to 5 days, a type of antibiotic drug (such as tetracycline or sulfonamides) can be added to the drinking water of the scorpions. Dissolve one tablet of the drug in about 4 kilograms of cold boiled water, mix well, suck it onto the sponge, and place it in the scorpion tank.
