Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is a rare small fish species belonging to the carp family, originated from rivers in western India, with an adult body length between 12-15 cm. This beautiful carp fish officially appeared in the aquarium industry in 1997 during an aquarium exhibition and made its first appearance in the aquarium market in Hong Kong at the end of 2003. Up to now, it still maintains strong popularity due to its stunning body color combination and unique habits. The length and beauty of Yi Mei Dao Ren make it an irreplaceable protagonist in large planted tanks, which was previously lacking. Unfortunately, due to environmental pollution caused by increasing population in its native habitat, the number of Yi Mei Dao Ren is gradually decreasing. Another commonly used English name for Yi Mei Dao Ren is dension's flyfox - this also shows its similar feeding habits with the common algae-eating fish Crossocheilus siamensis, which is commonly known as the Siamese algae eater. This characteristic is also one of the important conditions for Yi Mei Dao Ren to become the protagonist of planted tanks. However, the genetic relationship between Yi Mei Dao Ren and the Siamese algae eater is limited to the same subfamily. Yi Mei Dao Ren belongs to the genus Puntius, while the Siamese algae eater belongs to the genus Crossocheilos.
One, water mold disease
1, cause: Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu has a more common disease called water mold disease, which is mainly caused by poor water quality. If there are many harmful substances in the water, it will cause a large number of bacteria to grow, resulting in water mold disease.
2, treatment method: Water mold disease has a certain degree of infectivity. The owner should immediately isolate the infected fish to prevent them from infecting other fish. Then use a potassium permanganate solution to bathe the diseased fish once a day, about 15 minutes each time. After about a week, the diseased fish will recover.
Two, white spot disease
1, cause: Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is also prone to white spot disease, which is mainly caused by large fluctuations or low water temperature. They are tropical fish. When the water temperature is too low, their resistance will decrease, making them susceptible to white spot disease.
2, treatment method: The owner needs to immediately raise the water temperature to 26℃. In a high-temperature environment, the growth rate and activity of bacteria will decrease. Then use a white spot remover to bathe the diseased fish, insisting on bathing for 3 days, and the diseased fish will recover.
Three, enteritis
1, cause: Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is also prone to enteritis. They do not have a sense of fullness, and if fed too much food, they may experience indigestion. In addition, the food fed by the owner is relatively mixed, which is easy to breed bacteria and suffer from enteritis.
2, treatment method: If Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu can still eat, the owner can feed them some probiotics or loperamide. If they cannot eat, loperamide can be put into the water for bathing.
Especially suitable for planted tanks, high oxygen consumption. When keeping, it is necessary to ensure that the aquarium contains sufficient oxygen. It is not picky and can be fed with live food, dry feed, and thin slices.
The artificial reproduction of Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is difficult, but some countries in Southeast Asia have successfully accomplished artificial reproduction. The price of a young Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is between 7 to 10 yuan, while the price of a mature Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu is between 10 to 15 yuan.
The fry can start using freshly hatched Artemia to feed after 4 days. Two weeks later, they can start using Daphnia to feed the fry. However, due to the small mouth cleft of the fry, the size of the Daphnia must be taken into consideration. The small ones must be separated from the big ones using a sieve. Only the small ones should be used for feeding. But the big ones should not be wasted. They can be used for breeding to maintain the supply of small Daphnia. Just put the larger Daphnia that is left after sieving into a large tank, add water from the Yi Mei Dao Ren Yu breeding tank, and put it under the sun. Use the excreta of the breeding fish to provide nutrients for the Daphnia to continue reproducing. If necessary, a little yeast used for baking can also be added to feed the Daphnia.
When the fry are about one month old, they can start feeding on Tubifex and the previously larger Daphnia, and even adult Artemia. From this stage on, because of the diversity of food, the growth rate of the fry starts to accelerate. In addition to food handling, Mr. Mu Yati also revealed some details to be noticed in different feeding stages. The most important thing is to have consistency when switching food, which means that the previous food should not be immediately discontinued when changing to new feed, so as not to starve the fry due to discomfort.
