Parrot Fish is not a natural species, it is a variety created by chance in a fortuitous circumstance. In Taiwan, the male Red Devil Cichlid and the female Pink Parrot Cichlid were kept together. As a result of this serendipity, the male Red Devil Cichlid unexpectedly bred with the female Pink Parrot Cichlid, resulting in a group of strange and unique new fish species, known as Blood Parrot. In addition, Blood Parrot exhibits a high level of uncertainty and diversity, leading to the emergence of many different varieties such as Blood Parrot, Purple Parrot, King Kong Parrot, Luohan Parrot, Red and White Parrot, Zebra Parrot, Flower Parrot, and many more.
1. Water Mold Disease
Discover the fish's body with "white hair," the disease develops, the affected area's muscles rot, the appetite decreases, and eventually dies. This disease can occur in all seasons of the year.
Treatment methods: A. Soak the diseased fish in 3% saline water once a day for 5-10 minutes each time. B. Soak the diseased fish in a solution of 2ppm potassium permanganate and 5% saline water for 20-30 minutes once a day. C. Wash the diseased fish with a solution of 1-2ppm malachite green for 20-30 minutes, twice a day. D. Soak the diseased fish in a solution of 5ppm furan until it is healed.
2. Pinecone Disease
The scales of the diseased fish stand up like pinecones.
Treatment methods: A. Soak the infected fish in a solution of 1/100,000 units of tetracycline water for bathing, twice a day for one hour each time. B. Mix 2% sodium chloride solution with 3% sodium bicarbonate solution, medicate the diseased fish twice a day for 10 minutes each time. C. Add 0.5 grams of chloramphenicol per 40 kilograms of water for bathing.
3. Trematode Disease
After the fish becomes infected, it will swim around the water tank at an astonishing speed.
Treatment methods: Put the diseased fish in a formalin solution, with a concentration of 4kg of water and the addition of formalin ICC. After soaking the diseased fish for 1-20 seconds, immediately remove and put it back in the original water tank. Treat twice a day for 2-3 days in a row to cure.
4. Cold
The fish remains motionless, floats on the water surface, loses the shine of its skin and fins, and becomes dull in color.
Treatment methods: Keep the water temperature constant, soak the diseased fish in baking soda or a 1% saline water solution to increase illumination, in order to gradually restore its health.
5. Fish Lice Disease
The skin of the diseased fish becomes inflamed and ulcerated. When parasites adhere to the fish, they will rub against the glass and other surfaces.
Treatment methods: Put the diseased fish in 1.0-1.5% saline water to expel parasites after 2-3 days.
6. Ichthyophthirius Disease
In the early stage, there are individual small white spots on the fins and body, with appetite, and little change in spirit; in the middle stage, there are white spots everywhere on the fins and body, loss of appetite, lack of activity, itching everywhere, and darkened color; in the late stage, white spots spread all over the body, the fish floats on the water surface or sinks to the bottom of the tank. The fish is weak, sways from side to side, the surface of the body is covered with more mucus, breathing difficulties, suffocation, and death.
Treatment: This disease requires comprehensive treatment, and only using medicine does not yield significant results. Strengthening feeding management is very important. First, stop feeding for 4-5 days to reduce pollution; at the same time, keep the water temperature constant, increasing it by 2-3°C higher than the original water temperature is best. Medication can be used appropriately in the absence of aquatic plants because aquatic plants quickly wither when exposed to various drugs.
7. Black Spot Disease
The fish's body grows "black spots," which are grayish-white in color, and fungal hyphae entangle and adhere to the damaged tissue, causing tissue necrosis. At the same time, the diseased fish's appetite decreases and eventually dies.
Treatment: Adding a small amount of salt to the aquarium where new fish are stocked helps inhibit the occurrence of water mold, and clean and disinfect when adding live bait. Keep the water clean to isolate the growth of water mold bacteria. Generally, this disease can be prevented.
1. Change water frequently: Parrot Fish likes weakly acidic fresh water. It is recommended to change the water every 2 days, with a volume of one-third of the total water each time.
2. Maintain temperature: Parrot Fish is a tropical fish and prefers a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The water temperature needs to be maintained around 28 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is low, a heater can be installed. If the temperature is high, ice packs can be placed in the fish tank to cool it down.
3. Sufficient oxygen: Parrot Fish is a hybrid fish with naturally loose lips, which affects their ability to swallow and exchange water flow through the gills. Therefore, their ability to exchange water flow through the gills is relatively weak compared to other fish. To keep Parrot Fish healthy, provide them with sufficient oxygen.
4. Proper feeding: Parrot Fish is greedy and has a varied diet. They will eat any type of food. Generally, feed them 2-3 times a day, with each feeding completed within 5 minutes. It is important to control the amount of food given and follow the principle of feeding small amounts multiple times a day. Food options can include brine shrimp, earthworms, mealworms, and pellet feed.
