Arowana, Osphronemus goramy (Lacepède, 1801), also known as Warship or Asian bonytongue, is a fish species belonging to the family Osphronemidae, suborder Anabantoidei, order Perciformes. It is originally from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. Most of the fish in this family have a relatively small body size, but Arowana is a giant among them. Adult fish are oval-shaped with a body length of 20-69 cm. They have a gray-brown body color, and their pelvic fins are elongated and resemble silk fins, which are light red in color. Arowana thrives in a water temperature range of 22-32 degrees Celsius and has relatively low water quality requirements, making it easy to care for. The ideal water temperature for breeding is 26-27 degrees Celsius. Male Arowanas have a long pointed tip on their dorsal fins and belong to the bubble-nesting fish species. To breed them, several water plants can be floated on the surface of the aquarium, and a pair of parent fish can be placed in the tank. The male fish will create a large amount of foam on the water surface and will incubate the fertilized eggs in the foam. The female fish can lay 500-1000 eggs each time. Arowanas are highly territorial and will attack other fish, so it is not recommended to keep them with other fish species.
