Moorish idol belongs to the tropical reef fish in the family Moorish idol,
it is also commonly referred to as "golden idol", "idol fish" or "Moorish head". This fish is mainly distributed in tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, including the Red Sea, the African coast, and the Hawaiian Islands.
Moorish idol has a unique appearance, with a slim and flat body, laterally flattened. The body is yellow to white with three vertical black stripes, and there is a black mask around the eyes, with the dorsal fin protruding.
Moorish idol can grow up to 23 centimeters long.
Moorish idol is an omnivorous animal, feeding on a variety of foods including plankton, algae, and small invertebrates. It is well-known that they are difficult to raise under captive conditions because they require specialized diets and large aquariums with ample swimming space.
Moorish idol is often used as a symbol of the tropical coral reefs they inhabit, and although they have challenging care requirements, they are popular among aquarium enthusiasts.
