1. Fin Rot.
Cause: Deterioration of water quality, growth and reproduction of harmful bacteria, pathogenic bacteria produce powerful protein degrading enzymes, and the tail tissue of fish is the weakest, so generally issues with the tail are seen first. At this time, it can still be salvaged, but whether it can be saved or not is another matter.
Treatment: Use potassium permanganate or salt diluted in water (usually at a concentration of 0.3-1%). It can be slightly higher. Soak the fish in it for about 5 minutes. This process is for sterilization. Then put the fish in clean water for rest. Feed it when it recovers activity. Do not use strong medication, because the fish is already very weak in this situation and may die directly if given medication.
Note: The occurrence of this phenomenon indicates that the water quality has deteriorated to a certain extent and water should be changed in time, otherwise it is easy to have a large-scale outbreak.
2. White Spot Disease:
Also known as Ichthyophthirius, white spot disease is characterized by fast transmission, wide spread, great harm, good treatment. There is no picture of damselfish with this disease, so I found one of a goldfish.
Cause: It is caused by external parasites of fish and is a more common fish disease. The pathogen of white spot disease is caused by the invasion of the protozoan Ichthyophthirius into the fish's skin or gills. It generally occurs in spring, autumn, and winter, and this disease may also occur when the water temperature is different during water change.
Treatment: This disease spreads quickly, has a wide spread and great harm. If it is not discovered in time, it may be completely wiped out. However, if it is discovered in time, it is still easily treatable. The main methods are heating, water change, and disinfection. Choose one of the three, the usual routine.
3. Bacterial Cotton Wool Disease.
Characteristics of the disease: Infection of injured tissues on the body surface, forming a grayish-white, cotton-like covering at the site of the injury. The white ovum of damselfish is also bacterial cotton wool.
Cause of the disease: This disease is caused by fungi parasitizing on the fish's body surface, and it is particularly prone to occur when the fish has wounds.
Treatment: Increase the water temperature. Higher temperature inhibits fungal growth and can effectively treat the disease. After salt bath or medication bath, put it in clean water, which can also effectively treat the disease. When there is a lot of bacterial cotton wool, the hairy part can be removed. Bacterial cotton wool disease often occurs simultaneously with white spot disease.
1. Temperature: The Blue Damselfish does not have specific requirements for water temperature, but they cannot adapt well to high temperatures. Therefore, maintaining a temperature between 22-25℃ is most suitable for them. In addition, maintaining a constant water temperature is also beneficial to their health.
2. Water quality: Good water quality is one of the prerequisites for raising them. For them, a slightly acidic and soft water environment is most conducive to their survival. Therefore, it is best to control the water's acidity between 6.0-7.0 and water hardness between 5-8 during breeding.
3. Feeding: They have a high acceptance of artificial feed and can be fed with dry pellets or artificial feed.
