Suggested for small pet lovers, the most characteristic feature of Anglo ferrets is curiosity and cheerfulness, and they enjoy playing with people. Due to their endless curiosity and adventurous spirit, they are never idle. They often climb into furniture or go under it to explore new things. They will gather anything they like and hide it in secret places. They will also establish their own activity range, being affectionate, playful, and intelligent, making it easy to get close to them. They often want to play with people. They particularly enjoy going in and out with people, so you can put a harness on them or place them in an outdoor cage before taking them out for a walk, just like with dogs.
Anglo ferrets are social animals. Although they like to get close to people, they prefer to play with their companions. As long as the space is sufficient, it is not a big problem to keep multiple ferrets together. If they are left alone for a long time and do not feel lonely, or if their activities are reduced and they lack exercise, they will feel stressed and become obese, or even get sick. Therefore, do not keep the ferrets in a cage all the time, and let them come out and play often. Because they have an active and playful personality, there are various ferret-specific toys available on the market that can keep them entertained.
1.Skin diseases
There are two common diseases in ferrets, one is skin trauma, which can be caused by ferrets biting each other or being stabbed by sharp objects. If the wound is not large, simple wound cleaning, disinfection, and iodine application can be done.
The other common one is skin parasite infection. Such as mites and fleas. The symptoms of mite infection are red skin, hair loss (not the kind of shedding, but localized), redness, scabs, and dandruff where the hair has fallen off. Sick ferrets often scratch the roots of their ears, sides of their belly, or bite the skin on their belly. Treatment can be done by spraying the affected area with frontline spray for pets, or intramuscular injection of ivomec.
2% boric acid can also be used for scabbing and wounds caused by surface parasitic infections. After cleaning the wound, wipe it with boric acid, and it can be combined with external treatment such as ivomec.
Deworming
drugs can also be used simultaneously.
Fleas often occur when the humidity in the ferret's nest is too high, and it can also be transmitted by other animals. Breeding is rapid in high humidity environments. If a ferret is found constantly scratching its abdomen with its hind legs, check its abdomen for visible live fleas and small scabs the size of millet grains on the skin.
Feasible treatment: if it is scabies, first clean the wound with a blunt blade, then apply iodine, once a day, or apply Bayer's sabah anointment or Pfizer's large passion for ferrets, which can prevent scabies. If it is fleas, use Bayer's advocate refreshing or frontline spray (the part where the ferret is scratched), 2 drops for less than 1 kg, 3 drops for 1-2 kg, 3-4 drops for more than 2 kg, once a week for three consecutive weeks. If it is simple skin itching, apply (hydrogenated) hydrocortisone cream.
2. Cold
It often occurs in winter, after bathing, or when the fur is not dried in time after being rained on, and sudden cold stimulation can also cause pets to catch a cold. The symptoms are generally cold, trembling all over, fever, runny nose, and intermittent cough. Treatment can be done with 1-2 ml of bupleurum injection, 2 times a day. Or use 150,000 units/kg body weight of penicillin, 2 times a day by intramuscular injection.
Note: Influenza can be transmitted between humans and ferrets, so when someone or a ferret catches a cold, attention should be paid to protection to prevent mutual infection.
Feasible treatment: Pet Comfort (bupleurum injection) or canine distemper potion or cephalosporin antibiotics can be used when symptoms of fever, cough, sneezing, and other cold symptoms appear. 0.5-1mg/kg, once a day. Directly withdraw and inject intramuscularly with a syringe. If there are symptoms of fever, intramuscular injection of aminpyrine is needed, 1mg/kg, once a day, or aminopyrine commonly used in pet hospitals, with the same or slightly higher dose as dogs. The normal body temperature of ferrets is 38-39°C, with 38.8°C being the best. If it is confirmed to be a cold-induced cold, it can also be given orally with a compound preparation of isatis root. Severe infections or severe fever also require subcutaneous injection of dexamethasone.
1. Deodorization and anti-odor
Since pet ferrets are members of the Mustelid family and still have the instinct to defend against predators, especially during the rainy season in summer and autumn, they may emit a strong odor. You can use Six Gods Cologne to spray and achieve the purpose of cleaning the air.
2. Scheduled and Quantified Feeding
Pet ferrets have a small body size, so patience is required during the training process. Feeding should be strictly scheduled and quantified, and should not be fed randomly outdoors. As long as the feeding time and feeding amount are not arbitrarily changed, ferrets will not defecate anywhere, but this relies on the owner's patient training. Their characteristic is that once they recognize their own scent, they will go back to the same spot. This characteristic must be remembered during training.
1.Anglo pet ferrets can eat ferret food. It is recommended that the owner bathe them once a week, clean their ears every two weeks, and promptly clean their excrement every day. In order to ensure the health of Anglo pet ferrets, they need to be regularly examined for parasites, and vaccinated for distemper and rabies. In addition, attention should be paid to preventing heartworm disease. Anglo pet ferrets are afraid of heat, so it is important to take measures to prevent heatstroke in the summer.
2.
Anglo pet ferrets will molt in spring and autumn. During their molting period, they should be fed pet ferret hairball paste, with each feeding being 1 centimeter in length.
