The ancestors of ferrets were originally living in underground caves in cool climates, so they cannot adapt to hot and humid environments. Even today, they are still very sensitive to heat. Generally speaking, they feel comfortable at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature should not exceed 30 degrees Celsius. High temperatures may cause heatstroke, heat exhaustion, or even death. Owners should pay attention to avoid placing ferret cages or nests in ventilated areas or places where direct sunlight can shine, and should not place them near air conditioners or heaters. For ferrets, the appropriate humidity should be maintained between 50% and 70%. In most areas in China, the humidity is within this range, so it is not a problem for ferret babies with strong vitality.
It is recommended to keep it as a pet for small pet lovers. It is clean like a cat and likes to curl up its body to sleep. It is intelligent and clever. At the same time, it is friendly like a dog and likes to follow its owner around. Especially, it is curious about everything, not afraid or bored, and has a spirit of exploration, adding endless joy to its owner's life.
Ferrets should receive immunization between 8 and 12 weeks after birth. According to national regulations and animal protection principles, ferrets should at least receive immunization for rabies. If you want your ferret to be healthier, it is also good practice to vaccinate them against canine distemper and canine heat fever. After that, regular immunization should be given every year to ensure the ferret's immune level.
The ferret has a strong odor all over its body, which is not only unpleasant but also difficult to remove once it is contaminated. Therefore, before entering the pet market, they need to undergo deodorant gland surgery. In addition to deodorant gland surgery, pet ferrets also need to undergo microchip implantation surgery and sterilization surgery. Ferrets are very picky eaters and cannot be fed anything at will. Feeding ferrets must provide them with special ferret food.
Living environment: Ferrets have lost the ability to survive in the wild because they have been domesticated by humans for a long time. As responsible owners, we should keep them indoors and prepare for them to have no holes to drill. Because this little guy is good at drilling holes, as soon as he sees a long narrow passage, he is eager to try it out. However, sometimes we cannot determine whether the other end of the passage is dangerous or whether it leads outdoors. Therefore, for safety reasons, we still seal the entrance of the hole and give it some pipe-shaped toys, which will make it equally happy.
The ferret's fur is relatively dense and can get easily dirty, so we need to regularly clean its fur. If it gets too long, we need to groom it every day. Foxes shed their fur after eating high-salt food, so we can feed them salt-free food and avoid giving them greasy food to alleviate this.
