Grilled ferrets can be tamed, and in terms of IQ, they are similar to cats and dogs. Their intelligence is comparable to that of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. In the United States, Europe, and Japan, keeping Ang fish ferrets has become a trend. Pet ferrets have become the third largest pet after dogs and cats. At the same time, it is close to humans like dogs, likes to run around with the owner, especially curious about everything, fearless and not depressed, and full of exploration spirit.
The domestication of modern pet ferrets began over 200 years ago, but as early as 3000 BC, domesticated ferrets were already present in Egypt. They were raised together with European Persian cats. Later, during the process of the Crusades in the 11th century, ferrets were brought to Europe as a species with practical value. In the 16th century, ferrets were shipped from Europe to America to control the growth of rodents. People would release them from their cages to chase after hidden field mice.
Today, they have become the third most popular pet after dogs and cats. Especially in the United States, Europe, and Japan, keeping ferrets has become a fashionable trend. Currently, the population of pet ferrets in the United States has reached over 8 million. Ferrets not only have their own clubs but even regularly hold "Olympic Games" for pet ferrets.
It is recommended for small pet lovers to keep. Angora's most characteristic personality is curiosity and cheerful, and they like to play with people. Because of their endless curiosity and adventurous spirit, they are restless and often crawl into the back or underneath furniture to explore new things. They can gather anything they like and hide it in secret places, and they can also establish their own activity range. They love to be spoiled, love to play, and are intelligent. It is very easy to get close to them and they often want to play with you. They especially like to go in and out with people, so you can put a harness on them or put them in an outdoor cage before taking them for a walk, just like with a dog.
Angora is a social animal. Although they like to be close to humans, they prefer to play with their own companions. As long as there is enough space, it is not a big problem to keep multiple ferrets together. If you leave the ferret alone for a long time and it does not feel lonely or if you reduce its activity and make it exercise less, it will feel stressed and become obese or even sick. Therefore, do not keep the ferret in the cage all the time, and allow it to come out and play frequently. Because of their lively and active personality, there are also various ferret-specific toys available on the market to let them have fun.
1. Heatstroke
When the environmental temperature is around 30 degrees, pet ferrets will become tired, and when it exceeds 30 degrees, they are very prone to heatstroke. High temperatures increase the likelihood of heatstroke. To avoid this problem, you should always ensure a fresh water source, and their cage must be placed in a well-ventilated area. Avoid drafts and try not to use air conditioning for them. If your pet ferret experiences signs of heatstroke, such as panting, red gums, protruding tongue, weakness, trembling, lethargic lying down, or unconscious twitching, you should immediately move their cage to a cool and ventilated place, and place the ferret in warm water (do not use cold water) while contacting a veterinarian. Remember to put a bottle of frozen mineral water in their cage regularly.
2. Hairball condition
Like cats, pet ferrets have some habits, such as grooming their fur, so they can also suffer from hairball conditions. Using Macher's pet ferret hairball paste can solve this problem. It can lubricate and expel clumped hair from their stomach.
3. Intestinal obstruction
Sometimes ferrets may swallow soft pet toys, shoe heels, erasers, chair pads, headbands, or rubber bands made of rubber, which can lead to this rapidly fatal problem. Therefore, you should place small rubber products that are easy for ferrets to swallow out of their reach, and pay attention to their eating and chewing behaviors at all times to prevent such incidents.
4. Ear mites
If you find your pet frequently shaking its head, scratching its ears, and screaming, it is likely that ear mites are causing trouble. These parasites can make a ferret's ear canal extremely dirty and cause them great pain. Therefore, you should regularly clean their ear canals to reduce the possibility of mite infestation. If ear mites are found, although not a serious problem, you should still take them to see a veterinarian.
5. Cold
Pet ferrets are quite sensitive to cold viruses. If there is someone with a cold in your home, please keep the ferret away from that person. Wash your hands before and after touching the baby. If your ferret continues to show loss of appetite and other unfavorable symptoms for 2-3 days, please take them to see a doctor.
6. Scratching
There are many reasons for scratching, and one of them is dry skin. You can give them a bath, but never blow dry them with hot air. Sometimes, you can also use a humidifier to increase the ambient temperature.
1. Remember, do not eat indiscriminately. Before letting them out to play, please close all doors and clean up the garbage on the floor (ferrets are very curious and will eat anything). Generally, if they eat foreign objects, they will have bloody stools, vomit, and loss of appetite.
Basically they eat food, lactic acid bacteria, and strong treasure. Nutritional cream can be fed at three and a half months. Snacks can be fed after six months.
2. Keep them indoors in winter and pay attention to ventilation in summer to keep them cool.
3. Please check if the ferret's feces are normal every day. Generally, the stools before four months are relatively soft, and the stools afterwards will gradually become like toothpaste. Healthy feces have a dark brown color.
4. If you sneeze, cough, and have a runny nose at the same time, please use Mebei or add Isatis Root in the water.
Breeding tips: Regularly trim the nails, bathe, clean the ears, and brush the teeth of pet ferrets. Do not feed raw meat or foods such as biscuits and chocolate. Pay attention to heatstroke prevention in summer.
