Linqing Lion Cat, also known as Shandong Lion Cat, Lion Cat, Linqing Cat, originated in Linqing City, Shandong Province. It is the offspring of Persian Cat and Ruxi Raccoon Cat hybridization.
This cat has a beautiful appearance and certain ornamental value, and is a very high-quality cat breed. Locally, it is often used as a local treasure to give to guests to express their feelings. Nowadays, Linqing Lion Cats raised in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin all come from this place.
In this breed, if a cat has one blue eye and one yellow eye, and snow-white fur, it is extremely precious and is called "Mandarin Duck Eye Lion Cat". Its blue eye is crystal clear, and the yellow eye shines like gold, like two beautiful gems. It has a gentle temperament, a large body size, long and soft fur, a large head with round eyes, a round waist, and a thick tail. It is clean and agile.
About Shandong Lion Cat, there are two theories about its origin. One theory is that it originated in Linqing City, Shandong Province, and is the offspring of Persian Cat and Ruxi Raccoon Cat hybridization. The other theory is that it originated in Xinjiang, China, and is the combination of Turkish Ankara Cat and Persian Cat.
The most common theory is the hybridization of Ruxi Raccoon Cat and Persian Cat. In fact, the combination of these two cats has its origins. This is mainly due to the opening of the canal and the arrival of European merchants and missionaries during the Ming Dynasty. Linqing City happened to be located at the intersection of the canal and the Zhangwei River, which made it the largest commercial city in Ruxi. Therefore, European merchants came in succession and introduced Persian Cats. They quickly hybridized with our local cat, the Ruxi Raccoon Cat, giving birth to the Shandong Lion Cat, also known as the Linqing Lion Cat.
The Shandong Lion Cat is mainly bred by combining "Blue-eyed Persian Cat" and "Yellow-eyed local cat". Most of its eyes are yellow or blue, but occasionally there are yan-yang eyes, one blue and one yellow, which is the most precious variety. The fur of the Shandong Lion Cat is mostly white, occasionally yellow and brown.
Families with or without children and other pets and single individuals (not recommended for people allergic to cat hair)
1. Cat ringworm
Cat ringworm is a common skin disease in cats, which is basically a fungal infection.
Cause: Generally, kittens with poor physique are more prone to ringworm. Another type is caused by warm and humid living environment, which leads to fungal infection.
Symptoms: The most common areas where ringworm is prone to appear are ears and chin. In the early stage, small areas of ringworm spots will appear, and the hair will fall off. There will be dry scales on the surface. In severe cases, there will be skin ulceration, extensive baldness, and so on.
Solution: Isolate first-shave fur (shave the hair near the ringworm, one is to facilitate the application of medicine, and the other is to prevent the spread of fungi)-oral medication (commonly used are itraconazole/fluconazole/griseofulvin)-topical ointment (ketoconazole ointment/miconazole ointment /Tolnaftate ointment/pentene spray, remember to follow the doctor's advice before use)-medicated bath (ketoconazole lotion/miconazole lotion, keep it for 1-2 weeks until recovery)-increase nutrition (cats infected with ringworm, mostly have some problems with resistance, need to increase nutrition, cook a little chicken breast and carrots)-sunbathe more (sunning and keeping ventilation can help sterilize).
2. Cat flu
Cat flu is also one of the common diseases, and weak kittens are more prone to disease.
Cause: A bacterium called a strain of herpes virus invades the cat's respiratory tract. This virus will attach to the cat's trachea and begin to invade their respiratory system.
Symptoms: High body temperature, mucous around the nose, frequent sneezing, a large amount of secretion around the eyes, and severe cases may also have conjunctivitis.
Solution: When it is not serious in the early stage, you can take lysine and match it with antiviral eye drops. It is recommended that kittens be vaccinated to reduce the chances of getting cat flu. The virus that causes cat flu has a strong survival ability, so full-house disinfection and cleaning should be done, and formaldehyde and phenol can be used for disinfection.
3. Vomiting
Cat vomiting is also a common occurrence. Sometimes cats will vomit their vomit as a body protection mechanism, and they will generally feel better after vomiting.
Cause: Inhaling too much hair, indigestion, eating foreign objects, changing food too fast, catching a cold, and gastroenteritis can cause vomiting in cats.
Symptoms: There is hair and mucus in the vomit; or vomit food, vomit yellow water and foam, and so on.
Solution: If the cat vomits hair, it is recommended to buy some hair cream or cat grass for the cat to eat.
When the cat vomits, it is recommended to let the cat fast for a day, give it some warm water to drink, and then feed it some pet probiotics to help regulate the flora. If the cat vomiting symptoms stop, you can feed a small amount of softened cat food or canned food with more soup and other easily digestible food. If the vomiting does not improve, it is recommended to seek medical attention.
Due to the Lion Cat being a hybrid, it has essentially inherited the characteristics of the Chinese farmhouse cat. Therefore, it is relatively easy to raise, not only being skilled in catching mice but also being very cold-resistant, good at jumping, and having a strong body. Like most other cats, it can mainly be fed with cat food, and can also be supplemented with carrots, chicken breast, cornmeal, and other complementary foods. It is best not to add seasoning, as greasy and salty foods can easily cause skin problems.
The Lion Cat from Shandong is most fond of lamb liver and small fish, which can help improve eyesight. It is best not to feed it chicken bones or dry fish, as chicken bones can easily injure its intestines, and dry fish contains a large amount of magnesium, which can easily trigger urinary tract diseases or stones in cats. It is also feasible for it to only eat cat food, as this not only helps clean its teeth but also reduces the production of bad breath in cats.
The fur of Shandong Lion Cat is quite long, and it sheds throughout the year. Therefore, regular grooming is important to prevent excessive licking of fur, which can lead to gastrointestinal or respiratory diseases. Owners can use a special pet brush to groom it every day. If there is no time, hair removal cream can also be fed to promote the elimination of cat fur. To prevent the cat from ingesting fur, it is also important to clean the room in a timely manner.
To ensure that its fur looks fluffy and smooth, it is best to use pet-specific shampoo or neutral soap once a week, and wash it with warm water. After washing, you can also apply fur care products for maintenance. It is recommended to dry the fur in a timely manner after washing to prevent the cat from catching a cold. Shandong Lion Cat's fur starts to grow gradually from the age of 7 months, so this is also the best time to start fur cleaning.
Due to the excessive length of Shandong Lion Cat's fur and the lack of sweat glands on the skin surface, sweating is particularly difficult for them. Therefore, they are very sensitive to heat and mainly rely on paw pads to dissipate heat. It is best to take cooling measures in the summer, such as turning on the air conditioner or fan, and provide the cat with plenty of water.
