Despite its name, the breed did not originate in Java. During the breeding process of the Balinese cat (a semi-longhaired Siamese cat), American breeders obtained a semi-longhaired Oriental-type cat and named it Javanese cat according to its type. Javanese cat is still very rare in Europe. There is a dispute over whether the Javanese cat is a new breed or just a variation of the Balinese cat. For example, FIFe considers it to be a semi-longhaired Oriental-type cat with dense fur and long green eyes. CFA, on the other hand, believes that it is just a variation of the Balinese cat with different colors and emphasizes the recognition of four colors (seal, blue, chocolate, and lilac).
According to records, a litter of kittens was produced in the earliest breeding program to breed Angora cats, one of which was named Cuckoo and looked very similar to the ancient Turkish Angora cats. The characteristic is that the underlying coat is white, contrasting with the other chocolate brown hairs on the body. All of these Javanese cats were produced from breeding programs attempting to recreate the traditional Angora cat, and this breed won the championship in 1984. In October 1989, the name of the breed was changed from Angora cat to Javanese cat to better reflect its Oriental appearance.
1, Cat Ringworm
Cat ringworm is a common skin disease in cats, which is simply a fungal infection.
Causes: Kittens with poor physique are more prone to ringworm. Another cause is fungus infection caused by warm and humid living environment.
Symptoms: The most common locations are the ears and chin. Small areas of ringworm spots will appear in the early stage, and the hair will fall off. There will be dry flakes on the surface. In severe cases, there may be skin ulcers and large areas of baldness.
Solution: Isolate first - shave the hair (shave the hair around the ringworm, it is convenient to apply medicine, and it can also prevent the fungus from spreading) - take oral medication (common ones are itraconazole/fluconazole/griseofulvin) - apply ointment (ketoconazole ointment/miconazole ointment/tolnaftate ointment/petroleum spray, remember to follow the doctor's advice before using) - bath with medication (ketoconazole lotion/miconazole lotion, keep for 1-2 weeks until recovery) - increase nutrition (most cats infected with ringworm have some problems with their resistance, so they need to increase nutrition, cook some chicken breast with carrots) - sunbathe more (sunbathe and keep ventilation, which can help kill bacteria)
2, Cat Snuffles
Cat snuffles is also a common disease, and weak kittens are more prone to it.
Causes: A strain of bacteria called herpes virus invades the cat's respiratory tract. This virus attaches to the cat's trachea and begins to invade their respiratory system.
Symptoms: High body temperature, mucus around the nose, frequent sneezing, excessive secretion around the eyes, and severe cases may also have conjunctivitis.
Solution: When it is not too serious in the early stage, you can take lysine and use antiviral eye drops together. It is recommended to vaccinate kittens, which reduces the chance of getting cat snuffles. The virus causing cat snuffles has a strong survival ability, so you should do a thorough disinfection and cleaning of the entire house, and use formaldehyde and phenol for disinfection.
3, Vomiting
Vomiting is also common in cats. Sometimes, cats will vomit their vomit as a self-protection mechanism, and they will generally feel better after vomiting.
Causes: Inhaling too much fur, indigestion, eating foreign bodies, changing food too quickly, catching a cold, or having enteritis can all cause vomiting.
Symptoms: The vomit contains fur and mucus, or vomits food, yellow water, and foam.
Solution: If the cat vomits fur, it is recommended to buy some hair paste or cat grass for the cats to eat.
When the cat is vomiting, it is recommended to fast the cat for a day, give it some warm water to drink, and then feed it with a small amount of softened cat food or canned food with more soup, which is easy to digest. If the vomiting symptoms do not improve, it is recommended to see a doctor.
Cats are clean animals, but the habit of using a fixed toilet area needs to be trained regularly. During the training, place a litter box next to the cat bed, with 3-4 centimeters of sand in it and a small amount of sand with the smell of kitten urine or feces on the top layer. When the cat is anxious and restless, lead it to the litter box and let it smell the sand inside the box. This way, it will defecate in the litter box and the habit can be developed after several training sessions. If the cat defecates elsewhere, avoid scolding or punishing it. Instead, gently press the kitten's head to the feces, point to it and say, "Potty here." Repeat this several times to correct its undesirable behavior of defecating everywhere.
When keeping cats in the city, it is ideal to train them to use the toilet seat. Before training, place a plastic or wooden board under the toilet seat and cover it with a suitable amount of sand, ashes, sawdust, or other bedding materials. When you notice that the cat is restless and anxious, bring it to the toilet seat, and soon it will defecate. Once the cat has developed the habit of using the plastic board for defecation, gradually reduce the amount of bedding until the cat can defecate on the toilet seat. At this point, the plastic or wooden board can be removed. During the training, it is best for humans not to use the toilet seat, and the bedding should be replaced regularly, usually once a day.
Grooming Time: Recommended once every three days
1. Relax the cat: Before grooming, you can give the cat a massage service. Wait until the kitten starts to purr before proceeding with the following steps;
2. Comb along the fur: From the back → waist → hips → tail; You can wet the cat's fur with a small amount of water during grooming to reduce static electricity. Comb along the direction of fur growth, from top to bottom;
3. Comb from the chest to the abdomen: Lift the cat up and sit on your lap in a human position. Comb from top to bottom. The cat's belly is more sensitive, so the owner must be quick and accurate when grooming;
4. Comb the cat's head and face: You can comb from the cat's head or face towards the neck, being careful around the cat's eyes;
5. Underarm and belly hair: At this time, the cat can lie on its side, lift its front paws, and comb from the armpit to the side of the abdomen;
6. Finally, use a comb to remove excess hair, straighten the cat's fur, and finish the entire grooming process.
