Bombay Cat, also known as the Miniature Black Panther, originated from the United States and is a modern breed.
Due to its resemblance to the Indian leopard, it is named after the Indian city of Mumbai.
Bombay kittens have a slow development and often have tiger stripes on their fur. The color of their eyes is the same as other kittens, starting from blue at birth, then turning gray, and finally turning gold or deep purple-brown.
Bombay cats have a medium-sized body, a relatively large appetite, strong muscles, and their weight can be considered "heavyweight" relative to their body size, so they feel particularly substantial when held.
Bombay cats look like small black panthers, but their personality is opposite to their appearance. They are gentle, calm, emotionally rich, not afraid of strangers, and they love to be close to people. When being hugged, they purr with satisfaction. They are very sociable and easily blend with their surroundings. They can also get along well with children and dogs, but may not necessarily get along peacefully with other cats.
The Bombay Cat was bred in the United States in 1958 by a breeder in Kentucky who crossed a black American Shorthair with a sable Burmese. It was officially recognized by the Cat Fanciers' Association in 1976.
This cat retains the colors of the American Shorthair and has a similar body shape to the Burmese. It has a round head and full cheeks. The nose is medium in length, slightly short, slightly concave, but not a flat bridge, and the nose is black. The eyes are large and round, with golden or coppery color, often shimmering with charming radiance, hence the nickname "Mona Lisa" or "Miniature Black Panther". It also has a unique color - black. The coat of the kittens is slightly lighter, but when they grow to about 4 years old, the entire coat from root to tip is black, making their shining golden eyes even more captivating.
