The Aussie cat has a friendly nature and is alert. It has a wild-looking spotted coat that covers its entire body except for the neck and tail. It is larger in size, with adult cats weighing 5-7 kilograms. It has a broad chest and strong muscles, combining the agility of a wild cat with the calm temperament of a domesticated cat. This is the unique charm of the Aussie cat.
The Aussie cat originated in the United States in 1964. It is a new breed formed by American breeders using the Abyssinian cat as a base and mixing in the bloodlines of the Siamese cat and the American Shorthair cat. It first appeared at a show in 1964 and was officially registered in 1966. Although it attracted a lot of attention at the time, there were also people who opposed this breed. It took ten years of pedigree management before it was accepted by everyone.
1. Cat Ringworm
Cat ringworm is a common skin disease in cats, which is simply a fungal infection.
Cause: Kittens with poor constitution are more prone to ringworm. Another cause is fungal infection due to warm and humid living environment.
Symptoms: The most common areas to appear are the ears and chin. In the early stage, small areas of ringworm patches, hair loss, dry flakes on the surface, and severe skin ulcers, large bald patches, etc., may occur.
Solution: Isolate first - shave the hair (shave the hair around the ringworm, one is convenient for applying the medicine, and the other is to prevent the fungus from spreading) - oral medication (commonly used are itraconazole/fluconazole/griseofulvin) - apply ointment (clotrimazole cream/miconazole cream/tolnaftate cream/pet fentanyl spray, remember to follow the doctor's advice before use) - medicated bath (ketokonazole lotion/miconazole lotion, keep it for 1-2 weeks until recovery) - increase nutrition (cats infected with ringworm mostly have some problems with their resistance and need to increase nutrition, cook some chicken breast + carrots) - sunbathe more (sunbathe to keep ventilation, which can help kill bacteria).
2. Cat Respiratory Infection
Cat respiratory infection is also a common disease, and kittens with weak constitution are more prone to it.
Cause: A strain of bacteria called the herpes virus enters the cat's respiratory tract. This virus attaches to the cat's trachea and begins to invade their respiratory system.
Symptoms: Fever, mucus around the nose, frequent sneezing, abundant secretions around the eyes, and severe conjunctivitis.
Solution: When it is not too severe in the early stage, lysine can be taken, combined with antiviral eye drops. It is recommended to vaccinate kittens, which reduces the chances of getting respiratory infections. The survival ability of the virus that causes respiratory infections is strong, so do a good job of disinfection and cleaning of the whole house, you can use formaldehyde and phenol for disinfection.
3. Vomiting
Vomiting in cats is also common. Sometimes, cats will vomit their vomit as a self-protection mechanism, and generally feel better after vomiting.
Cause: Inhaling too much hair, indigestion, eating foreign objects, changing food too quickly, catching a cold, or gastroenteritis can all cause vomiting.
Symptoms: Hair and mucus in the vomit; or vomiting food, vomiting yellow water and foam, etc.
Solution: If the cat vomits hair, it is recommended to buy some hairball paste or cat grass for the cat to eat.
When the cat vomits, it is recommended to fast the cat for a day, give it warm water to drink, and then feed it with a little pet probiotics to regulate its microbial flora. If the cat's vomiting symptoms stop, feed it with a small amount of soaked cat food or canned food with more soup, and other easily digestible food. If the vomiting does not improve, it is recommended to seek medical attention.
Hygiene: As cats have a lot of fur, they are prone to carrying various types of bacteria and parasites. For the sake of the cat and the owner's health, the cat should be bathed and groomed regularly;
Diet: Different cats have different food preferences. Owners should not randomly choose cat food from the market for the sake of convenience. They should carefully select cat food based on the cat's breed, growth situation, and physical condition. Special cat utensils should also be prepared;
Health: Like humans, cats can also get sick. When a cat is sick, it must be taken to a specialized animal hospital for treatment. Regular physical examinations and vaccination injections should also be carried out. Only when a cat is physically healthy can it have the energy to play with its owner;
Safety: There is a saying that "curiosity killed the cat." Cats are restless creatures and always have a great curiosity about various things. Moreover, their nature leads them to like entering enclosed spaces. Therefore, owners must close doors, windows, and lids to prevent cats from getting into potential danger;
Living environment: Cats like to lie down and sleep a lot. Therefore, as owners, they should prepare a small cushion for them to sleep on. However, after a long time of use, these cushions will accumulate a lot of bacteria. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to cleaning and disinfecting them at any time;
Cat litter: The problem of pets doing their business anywhere has troubled many pet owners. However, cats are actually very clean animals. As long as the owner provides them with cat litter, they will go to the litter box to do their business on their own;
Cats cannot tolerate being forced by their owners to do things. When the owner forces them to do something, they can become annoying. Therefore, owners should trim the cat's nails at any time to prevent them from scratching and causing infections when playing with them.
Grooming Time: Recommended every three days
1. Relax the cat: Before grooming, you can start with a massage for the cat. Once the kitten starts purring, move on to the next step;
2. Comb along the fur: From the back → waist → buttocks → tail; you can dampen the cat's fur with a small amount of water to reduce static electricity. Comb along the direction of hair growth, from top to bottom;
3. Comb from chest to abdomen: Hold the cat, sit with a person's posture, and comb from top to bottom. The cat's belly is more sensitive, so the caretaker must be quick and accurate when grooming;
4. Comb the cat's head and face area: You can comb from the cat's head or face towards the neck. Be careful of the cat's eyes while combing;
5. Underarm and belly side hair: At this time, the cat can lie on its side and lift its front paws. Comb from under the armpit to the side of the abdomen;
6. Finally, use a comb to groom again, remove excess hair, and make the cat's fur smooth. Finish the whole process.
