The Chartreux cat, also known as the Shatuo blue cat, is a breed that originated in France. It is said to have been bred by monks of the Chartreux order in France. In France, although cats that catch mice are popular on farms, the Chartreux cat is not bred to be a mouse-hunting cat in order to maintain its shiny coat. Instead, it is often kept as a pet and it wasn't until around 1970 that its bloodline spread to the United States.

The Chartreux cat has a slightly chubby body and its fur is blue-gray, which is its biggest characteristic. Its thick and soft blue-gray fur shines with a beautiful luster, making it very charming. It is a short-haired cat with slightly longer fur. Its head is slightly large and round, with a pair of chubby cheeks. Its golden eyes are round, large, and bright, showing rich expressions, making it look smart and adorable. The Chartreux cat has a strong and robust body and is able to adapt to various environments. It has a gentle and well-behaved nature.
