Selkirk Rex, English name: Selkirk Rex. Selkirk Rex is one of the newest natural breeds, evolved from domestic cats. It originated from Wyoming, USA, and developed its unique characteristics through crossbreeding with Persian cats. It can be bred with Persian cats, exotic shorthair cats, British shorthair cats, and American shorthair cats. It does not have any genetic diseases and is a very healthy cat.
Selkirk Rex, also known as "the cat in sheep's clothing", is one of the four curly-haired cat breeds. Their fur looks like it has been permed. Selkirk Rex has extraordinary curly hair genes, which originated from a natural gene mutation in domestic cats.
In 1987, a calico cat in a shelter gave birth to a litter of kittens, one of which had curly hair. That cat became the ancestor of the Selkirk Rex breed. This curly-haired cat was entrusted to a breeder in Wyoming, who bred it with her award-winning Persian cat. She named the resulting breed "Selkirk" in honor of her stepfather, making it the only cat breed named after a person.
Recommend cat lovers to raise.
One, Distemper
Symptoms: Cats with distemper will have fever, depression, and gradually decreasing body temperature. They will also experience weakness, dehydration, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Solution: Choose a good pet hospital for vaccination on time, keep the house clean and hygienic, and isolate appropriately. Rabies vaccine can only be given at 3 months of age; cat triple vaccine can usually be given at 2 months of age, with a monthly interval.
Two, Cat Flu
Symptoms: Fever, excessive nasal mucus, frequent sneezing, accompanied by conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and excessive tearing.
Solution: Once discovered, seek medical attention promptly. This virus can spread through the air, so it is important to isolate from other cats in a timely manner.
Three, Hairball
Symptoms: Cats have vomiting, decreased appetite, and hairballs in their feces.
Solution: Regularly feed the cat with hairball paste and preferably grow some cat grass at home.
Four, Gastrointestinal discomfort
Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.
Solution: Fast the cat first, then feed it with probiotics for conditioning. If the condition is severe, seek medical attention promptly. Prevention: 1. Maintain a light diet; 2. Do not frequently change cat food. When changing cat food, follow the seven-day food exchange rule.
Hygiene: Due to the large amount of hair on the cat's body, it is easy to carry various bacteria and fleas. In order to protect the health of the cat and the owner, the cat should be bathed and combed regularly;
Diet: Different cats have different preferences for food. The owner should not randomly choose cat food on the market for convenience. They should carefully select cat food based on the cat's breed, growth, and physical condition, and prepare dedicated utensils for the cat;
Health: Like humans, cats can also get sick. When a cat is sick, it must be taken to a specialized animal hospital for treatment. Regular physical examinations and vaccinations should also be given to cats. Only when a cat is physically healthy, can it have the energy to play with its owner;
Safety: There is a saying, "Curiosity killed the cat." Cats are restless creatures and always have great curiosity about things. Moreover, their nature makes them especially fond of entering enclosed spaces. Therefore, the owner must close doors, windows, and lids to prevent the cat from getting into potential dangers;
Living Environment: The cat's favorite thing is to lie down and sleep. Therefore, as the owner, you should prepare a small cushion for it to sleep on. After the cat has been using these cushions for a long time, there will be a lot of bacteria on them, so you must pay attention to cleaning and disinfection at all times;
Cat litter: The problem of pets urinating and defecating everywhere has troubled many pet owners. But cats are actually very clean animals, so as long as the owner prepares cat litter for the cat, it will go to the litter box by itself;
Cats cannot tolerate being forced to do something by their owners. When the owner forces them to do something, they will become annoyed. Therefore, the owner should trim the cat's nails regularly to prevent being scratched and infected when playing with the cat.
Grooming Time: Recommended once every three days
1. Relax the cat: Before grooming, you can give the cat a massage. Wait for the kitten to purr before proceeding to the next step;
2. Brush along the fur: From the back → waist → buttocks → tail; you can wet the cat's fur with a small amount of water to reduce static electricity. Brush along the direction of hair growth, from top to bottom;
3. Brush from the chest to the abdomen: Lift the cat and sit on the lap in a human posture, and brush from top to bottom. The cat's belly is sensitive, so when grooming, the caregiver must be quick and accurate.
4. Brush the cat's head and the area around the face: You can brush from the cat's head or face towards the neck, but be careful with the cat's eyes.
5. Fur under the armpits and on the belly side: At this time, the cat can lie on its side, lift its front paw, and brush along the side from the armpit to the belly.
6. Finally, use a comb to groom again, remove excess fur, and tidy up the cat's coat to finish the entire process.
