American Pit Bull Terrier, also known as the Pit Bull or Staffordshire Bull Terrier, originated in the United States. Initially used for herding and hunting, it was later bred for dog fighting due to human entertainment activities. Its ancestors were the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the Bull Terrier, after several generations of breeding and improvement, gradually developed this fierce and combative nature. It is naturally combative and can immediately enter an attacking state during fights. Although brave, it is too ferocious, once it bites the opponent's neck, it will not easily let go, demonstrating a determination to fight to the death.

Due to several cases each year in the United States and Canada of children and even adults being bitten or killed by Pit Bulls, the American Pit Bull Terrier is considered one of the most dangerous breeds and is explicitly restricted or even banned in many countries. In areas where they are allowed to be kept, there are certain restrictions on Bull Terriers as well, requiring them to wear special collars and muzzles when entering public places for control purposes and to prevent accidents. In the UK, only legally registered and neutered American Pit Bull Terriers are allowed to be kept. The American Kennel Club has still not recognized this breed.
