Kunming dog is a breed cultivated by the Kunming Police Dog Base of the Ministry of Public Security. There are three color strains: wolf gray, straw yellow, and black back. The Kunming dog of the black back strain has a similar appearance to the German Shepherd, but without the serious flaw of the German Shepherd's hindquarters collapse. Kunming dog breeding started in 1953 and was successful in 1964.
In 1950, due to the needs of border combat, the local wolf breed in Yunnan was selected and after 38 years of careful cultivation, a new excellent breed of dog was finally developed. At that time, 10 personnel from the Southwest Border Cadre Training Class in Chongqing were sent to participate in the first military dog training class in Beijing.
In May 1953, 10 trainees from the Southwest brought back 10 trained military dogs, along with 10 breeding dogs allocated by the Beijing Military Dog Training Team, and returned to the Yunnan Provincial Public Security Headquarters (predecessor of the Yunnan Military District). Following the orders from higher authorities, the Yunnan Provincial Public Security Headquarters established the Military Dog Training Team (predecessor of the Yunnan Military District Military Dog Training Team). At that time, due to insufficient breeding sources, several comrades including the district team leader and assistant teacher were sent to Kunming and other places to requisition 50 qualified wolves (29 males, 21 females) from the public. Later, personnel were sent to Chongqing, Chengdu, Guiyang, and other places to collect 40 civilian wolves (17 males, 23 females). Then, 20 wolves (12 from Kunming, 8 from Guizhou and Sichuan) were selected based on their body size and nerve type from the above 90 wolves, consisting of 5 males and 15 females, and combined with the 10 breeding dogs brought back from Beijing, for a total of 30 dogs. They were used as the original population or foundation group and formed a breeding zone team for selective crossbreeding.
The Kunming dog has a strong dependence on its owner, being naturally smart, with a sensitive sense of smell, fierce biting capability, strong running ability, alert and agile, and quick to learn. However, it has a fierce side, just like its appearance, and is mainly raised as a working dog, not suitable as a companion dog in the home.
1. Heart disease
Dog heart disease is often related to obesity and old age. When dogs have heart disease, they mainly exhibit symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath. It is difficult to detect heart disease in dogs, and when owners notice it, the dog is already seriously ill.
2. Infectious diseases
Canine distemper and canine parvovirus are common malignant infectious diseases in dogs, with a high mortality rate. Dogs that are not vaccinated in time are prone to these two infectious diseases. Once they are infected, they will show symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
3. Kidney disease
When it comes to common diseases and symptoms in dogs, kidney disease must be mentioned. The horror of dog kidney disease lies in its unconscious process. After the owner discovers it, the damage to the dog's kidney cells often exceeds 75%. When dogs have problems, the symptoms usually include blood in the urine, abnormal urine color, and changes in urination habits.
4. Parasites
Intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, and heartworms are commonly found parasites in dogs. When dogs are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, the main symptoms are emaciation, lethargy, diarrhea, presence of parasites in the feces, and pale gums. Heartworm is a parasitic worm that lives in the dog's heart. After dogs are infected, they will show symptoms such as poor vitality, coughing, anemia, wheezing, and ascites.
5. Canine pneumonia
Pneumonia is also a common disease in dogs, but canine pneumonia is a complication of other diseases and often occurs in dogs with abnormalities in the upper respiratory system, bacterial infections, canine distemper infections, viral colds, pulmonary dysfunction, and heartworm infections. Coughing, nasal congestion, and fever are the main symptoms of canine pneumonia.
Calcium, phosphorus, and other trace elements are extremely important for the growth of dogs. They are mainly obtained through food. Calcium and phosphorus promote the development of dogs' bones. In addition to a certain proportion, they also need vitamin D. Without vitamin D, bone tissue cannot form. It is also beneficial to take dogs out in the sun to promote the absorption of calcium.
Calcium (Ca) is present in every cell of the body. Calcium accounts for about 1-1.5% of the body, and 98% of it is in bones. It is the most important element in bone composition. Moreover, calcium is also involved in physiological reactions in the body, such as muscle contraction, blood clotting, hormone release, and nerve reactions.
Phosphorus (P) is mainly distributed in bones (80%) and soft tissues (20%) in the body. It is an important element for cell energy exchange and a crucial component of cell nuclei. Phosphorus accounts for about 0.5-0.8% of the body.
1. Do not bathe frequently
When bathing a dog, it should not be done too frequently. The frequency of bathing depends on the dog's hygiene condition. In hot weather, bathing can be done one or two more times, while in winter, it can be reduced by one or two times. However, the total number of baths should not exceed 5 times. Otherwise, it may damage its fur and skin!
2. Brush the fur regularly
Dogs will shed their fur almost every day, especially in the spring and autumn seasons when seasonal shedding is more severe. Regular brushing is an important step to promote good hair growth. Pet owners can use dedicated pet brushes to help the dog remove naturally shed hair and prevent tangling. Brushing once in the morning and once in the evening for about five minutes each time is sufficient.
3. Sunbathe
Sunbathing is beneficial for the dog's hair growth. Besides giving the fur a glossy appearance, sunlight can also help kill bacteria. While sunbathing, the pet owner can let the dog exercise a bit, which can improve its physical fitness, promote blood circulation, and help grow healthier fur.
4. Deworming
Poor fur condition is closely related to parasitic worms. Parasites absorb a large amount of nutrients from the dog's body, which not only deprives the dog of nutrition but also affects the fur. Deworming is necessary. It is recommended to deworm internally and externally. Moreover, deworming medicines can cause great harm to the dog's digestive system. Therefore, it is advisable to feed probiotics regularly to relieve gastrointestinal discomfort.
5. Pay attention to diet
In order for dogs to have a beautiful coat, it is necessary to establish a solid nutritional foundation and pay attention to daily diet. On the one hand, feed the dog with nutritious and healthy dog food. Choose a dog food that is suitable for the dog and contains sufficient nutrients to meet its needs. On the other hand, the dog can also be fed with a moderate amount of lean meat, cooked egg yolks, and vegetable oil.
