Red Wolf Dog, also known as Xiangxi Red Wolf Dog or Xiangxi Wolf Dog, is a newly bred hybrid dog developed by folk individuals, private breeders, and enthusiasts in the Xiangxi region of Hunan. It is temporarily named Red Wolf Dog because it has a reddish-brown coat color similar to a typical wolf breed.
With a moderate size between medium-sized and large-sized dogs, it has a highly sensitive sense of smell, several times more sensitive than other dog breeds. It has a strong territorial awareness and strangers are not allowed to touch its body, being very alert. It is good at biting, but loyal to its owner, highly obedient, and has both the innate ability to attack and defend. It has good endurance and the ability to chase and hunt prey. It has a calm temperament, good sensory perception, and high accuracy in direction, being very active.
The Red Wolf Dog is mainly formed by a small number of hybrid wolf dogs. After multiple generations of crossbreeding, the color genes of some dog breeds have mutated, and it has also been mixed with the genetic fusion of other similar red-haired dog breeds. After long-term and repeated selective breeding, the unique fur color of the present has been formed.
Through early cultivation and selective breeding by some breeders, a single red fur has been chosen as the main development direction, suspending the breeding of different series of fur colors. This has led to a slow development of the population of dogs with a single fur color, but it has also guaranteed the quality of the dog breeds and prevented excessive crossbreeding. After long-term selective breeding, the unique fur color, basic appearance characteristics, and conformation of the dog breeds have been formed. However, some different series of fur colors exist in a small number in peripheral branches and have not been developed and promoted by breeders.
There are not many of these dogs, and they are still in the early stage of conservation breeding. The population is not large and the distribution is not extensive. However, the population of dog breeds is increasing every year. Currently, they have not gained recognition and understanding from the domestic dog industry market, as well as the attention and recognition from relevant departments. However, the dogs have been jointly conserved and bred by some breeders and players, so it is worth promoting and popularizing them together.
The Red Wolf Dog can be used as a decorative dog, a guard dog, and a companion dog, but it needs a spacious living environment.
This dog is agile and not inferior to other breeds of wolf dogs. It has a certain aggression towards strangers appearing in its own territory. It is good at hunting and guarding the house, making it an excellent guard dog.
1. Heart Disease
Dogs are prone to heart disease, often related to obesity and old age. When dogs have heart disease, they mainly show symptoms such as easy fatigue and difficulty breathing. Heart disease in dogs is difficult to detect and often goes unnoticed until it is too late.
2. Infectious Diseases
Canine distemper and canine parvovirus are common and highly fatal infectious diseases in dogs. Dogs that have not been vaccinated in a timely manner are susceptible to these two diseases. Once infected, dogs may show symptoms such as lethargy, decreased appetite, high body temperature, vomiting, and diarrhea.
3. Kidney Disease
When it comes to common diseases and symptoms in dogs, kidney disease cannot be ignored. The terrifying aspect of kidney disease in dogs is that it often progresses unnoticed. By the time the owner notices, the dog's kidney cells are already damaged by more than 75%. When dogs have kidney problems, symptoms usually include blood in the urine, abnormal urine color, and changes in urination habits.
4. Parasites
Intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms, as well as heartworms, are common parasites that infect dogs. When dogs are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, the main symptoms include emaciation, lethargy, diarrhea, presence of worms in feces, and pale gums. Heartworms are parasites that live in the dog's heart. Dogs infected with heartworms may exhibit symptoms such as decreased energy, coughing, anemia, wheezing, and abdominal fluid accumulation.
5. Canine Pneumonia
Pneumonia is also a common disease in dogs, but it often occurs as a complication of other diseases. It commonly occurs in dogs with abnormalities in the upper respiratory system, bacterial infections, canine distemper, viral influenza, impaired lung function, and heartworm infection. Coughing, nasal congestion, and high body temperature are the main symptoms of canine pneumonia.
The Red Wolf Dog is a bit timid and afraid of strangers in unfamiliar places. It also displays a strong desire to attack other animals. Therefore, special attention is needed when taking it out for activities, and regular training is also required.
1. Can't bathe frequently
When giving your dog a bath, it should not be too frequent. The frequency of bathing depends on the hygiene of the dog. In hot weather, you can bathe your dog one or two more times, while in winter you can reduce it by one or two times. However, the total should not exceed 5 times. Otherwise, it will damage its fur and skin!
2. Be diligent in brushing
Dogs shed almost every day, especially in spring and autumn when they shed more. In order to promote good hair growth, brushing is an important step. Pet owners can use a special brush to help the dog remove naturally shedding hair and prevent tangling. Brushing once in the morning and once in the evening for about five minutes each time is sufficient.
3. Sunbathe
Sunbathing is beneficial for the dog's hair growth. In addition to making the fur more shiny, letting the dog bask in the sun can also help with sterilization. While sunbathing, you can let the dog exercise a bit, which can help improve their physical fitness, promote blood circulation, and help grow healthier hair.
4. Deworming
Poor quality fur is often related to parasites. Parasites absorb a large amount of nutrients from the dog's body, resulting in nutrient deprivation. Therefore, deworming is necessary. It is recommended to do both internal and external deworming. Additionally, deworming medication can cause significant harm to the dog's stomach and intestines. Therefore, it is recommended to supplement with probiotics to relieve gastrointestinal discomfort.
5. Pay attention to diet
In order for your dog to have beautiful fur, it is necessary to establish a good nutritional foundation and pay attention to daily diet. On one hand, feed your dog with nutritious and healthy dog food that meets their needs. On the other hand, you can also give them a moderate amount of lean meat, cooked egg yolks, and vegetable oil.
