The American Foxhound, also known as AmericanFoxhound, originated from the United States as its name suggests. This dog has straight front legs and ample bone mass. The knuckles are short and straight, and the paws resemble a fox's feet, with solid and full pads. This dog has a lively and gentle temperament, full of vitality, and is friendly with people, but also has a strong resistance. It must be trained strictly, and even after training, it may still have a strong destructive ability, so it is not suitable for being kept as a family companion dog.
The American Foxhound and the English Foxhound both exist in the United States and the United Kingdom, but the American Foxhound is actually descended from the English Foxhound and is a breed that has been continuously improved and bred from the English Foxhound. Although there are some genetic characteristics between the two, there are still differences. The American Foxhound has a more slender skeletal structure than the English Foxhound, but it appears rougher in appearance.
The American Foxhound is slow in vitality, has a cheerful and friendly personality, is easy to approach, has a unique voice and extremely vigorous energy, and sometimes shows strong resistance. It has the conditions and abilities to become an excellent hunting dog and outstanding show dog, but necessary training is necessary.
Around the 13th century, the British used a larger-sized dog to hunt deer. Later, in order to capture foxes, they started to find ways to improve the running speed of this breed of dog, and made corresponding improvements and breeding to it, which is the early English Foxhound.
In the past, hunting with English Foxhounds was very popular in the United Kingdom. In 1650, Robert Brooke sailed to Cape of Good Hope in America, and he was accompanied by a large group of English Foxhounds. Since then, the English Foxhound began to appear in America, and these dogs are the direct ancestors of the later bred American Foxhounds.
In 1770, George Washington, the founding father of the United States, agreed to import the hunting dogs from England. He mixed this newly imported Foxhound with the bloodline of the French hunting breeds, and then obtained the American Foxhound, laying a foundation template for the later improvement and development of the American Foxhound. During the 19th to 21st century, the Foxhound gradually formed what we now see as the American Foxhound through crossbreeding with other hunting dogs. The types of American Foxhounds have different variations in different regions, and until the 21st century, hunting dogs from the American Foxhound Club and the Foxhound Owners Association have achieved great success in more standardized types.
This dog occasionally exhibits strong resistance and has strong destructive power, so it must undergo strict and professional training. However, it may still not be trustworthy after training. Therefore, although it has a gentle temperament and is friendly to people, it is not suitable as a family dog, especially for urban residents. It has the nature of a foxhound and requires sufficient exercise. It also needs regular grooming for its coat and is not suitable for people with limited free time to raise.

1. The large amount of exercise of the American Foxhound consumes a lot of energy, so in the daily feed, the amount of meat should not be less than 200-250 grams. Dry ingredients or biscuits should be mixed with the same amount of meat and water should be added for feeding. The meat needs to be cooked and chopped, and raw meat should not be fed. Vegetarian ingredients should also be cooked.
2. Generally, feed for about 15 minutes. If it exceeds the time, the feed trough should be taken away to make it aware that it must finish eating within the specified time, otherwise it will starve.
3. It is best not to reuse the leftover food from the last time, especially in hot weather seasons, to avoid feeding spoiled food. To prevent diseases such as enteritis.
1. Do not bathe frequently
When bathing your dog, it should not be too frequent. The frequency of bathing depends on the dog's cleanliness. You can bathe your dog more often in hot weather, such as one or two times, and reduce it in winter. However, the total number of baths should not exceed 5 times. Otherwise, it will damage its coat and skin!
2. Brush regularly
Dogs shed their fur almost every day, especially in spring and autumn. To ensure good hair growth, regular brushing is an important step. Pet owners can use pet-specific brushes to help dogs clean their naturally shed hair and avoid tangling. Brush once in the morning and once in the evening, for about five minutes each time.
3. Sunbathe
Sunbathing is beneficial for the growth of a dog's fur. Besides making the fur more shiny, letting the dog sunbathe can also help kill bacteria. While sunbathing, you can also let the dog exercise a bit to improve its physical fitness, promote blood circulation, and help grow healthier hair.
4. Deworming
Poor fur condition is closely related to parasites. Parasites absorb a large amount of nutrients from the dog's body, depriving it of nourishment. Therefore, deworming is essential. It is recommended to do internal and external deworming together. Deworming medication can cause significant damage to a dog's gastrointestinal system, so it is advisable to feed probiotics regularly to alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort.
5. Pay attention to diet
To have a beautiful coat, it is necessary to establish a good nutritional foundation and pay attention to the dog's daily diet. On one hand, feed the dog with nutritious and healthy dog food, choose a brand that suits the dog's needs and is rich in nutrients to meet its requirements. On the other hand, you can also give the dog a moderate amount of lean meat, cooked egg yolk, and vegetable oil.
